Two Active 15's
out at MAC

The Nordic Faering

A personal need for crewed dinghy that could cope with a combined crew weight of +160 kgs initially gave rise to the our development of the ACTIVE 15.

During the development phase of the ACTIVE 15 from the interest shown and comment received from those who heard about the project our view that dinghy sailing in SA suffered from its focus on single handed sailing.

Our view is that sailing is arguable the one sport that offers participation to the entire family without exclusion through gender or age, was supported by the views expressed by others. It has a wide appeal for the family as a whole.

The range of craft available, however, did not offer scope for whiole family involvement

The ACTIVE15 was designed to offer sailing at a variety of skill levels from basic training to full twin trapeze athletic level. To do cope with this range the hull design is a high performance platform, offering four rig sizes, which also make it suited to the diverse conditions found in coastal and inland sailing conditions; you can choose the rig suited to both your sailing ability and the wind strengths of your locale. It is a competitive racer and can be as technical as any.

In keeping with our philosophy, the hull, designed to be built in reinforced composites, is also engineered to be home built from cnc cut plywood parts [a father son project]. Both GRP and ply versions are available.

The Cape Faering, a second project based on traditional workboat design, is a competent sail and oar powered craft that is easy to handle [again available in cnc cut plywood kit form for home assembly] and capable of being sailed in tidal waters [fishing]. A fold away cuddy makes it suitable to use for river or estuary camping trips.
